Every year our homeschool group enjoys two very special parties – a (Not) Back-to-School party and an End-of-the-Year party. Many, many times we’ve wished that we had a banner so that new families could find us easily.

So, I was pretty excited when the folks at Build-A-Sign contacted me offering me the opportunity to create a custom banner at no charge in exchange for reviewing their product and service.

I really debated about the sign because I wanted one for our homeschool group, but we don’t have a logo or any defining colors and I’m not especially creative. I finally decided to create a banner with my blog’s colors and logo, thinking that it would work for our group – because, hey, we’re a whole group full of weird, unsocialized homeschoolers – and I’d also have it if I ever needed it for anything to do with my blog.

Creating the banner was super easy. I just went to the site, clicked on the size I wanted and clicked on a banner to customize – though I could have just as easily started from scratch…and probably should have since I changed the banner quite a bit.

The design tool is simple to use if you’ve ever created any type of design at all with either photo editing software or just in a world processing program. There are buttons for adding text, adding clipart and uploading images.

If you’ve hung around here for awhile, you’ve probably heard me lament my non-existent graphic design abilities, but the banner customizing software was so simple, even I could create a great banner in just a matter of minutes. Seriously, I probably spent 15 or 20 minutes on the entire process and most of that was trying to make sure the clipart I added was straight.

There are lots of different styles of fonts available and a wide variety of quality clipart to choose from.

As you can see, the banner turned out great:

Honestly, the finished product was even better than I’d envisioned.

Yes, that’s my front porch it’s hanging out. I couldn’t wait to see what it looked like in action, plus I was curious to see how easy it was to hang. I found a couple of bungee cords in the garage and we had the banner hung in no time.

I’m sure the neighbors thought we’d finally gone over the edge, announcing to the world from our front porch that we are, in fact, weird, unsocialized homeschoolers.

Maybe they didn’t notice. We took it down quickly.

I was very impressed with the quality of the banner. It’s made from heavy, durable vinyl. The top and bottom are care reinforced and the grommets strong and secure.

The banner arrived within a week of when the order was placed, so I thought the turn-around time was great.

Build-A-Sign offers many different sizes of custom banners and a reasonable price range. In addition to banners, you can customize items such as:

  • Magnets
  • Bumper stickers
  • Vinyl lettering
  • Signs
  • License plates
  • Window clings

As you can see, there are a wide variety of options for promoting your blog or your business, as well as announcing events such as a home for sale, baby/bridal showers, family reunions, and much more.

Now I’m almost ready to school to start so that we can plan our (Not) Back-to-School party and I’ll have an opportunity to use my banner!
